K-Gr 3—These books try to cover too much information for their length and intended audience. Each volume opens with a section that introduces the featured continent and includes a highlighted world map. The next sections cover a few of the types of habitats, explain what "endangered" means, and contain an animal-classification chart. The remaining chapters describe different regions and focus on a few animals in each one. Finally, the volumes close with a message about what readers can do to help endangered creatures. There is too much varied information crammed into these books for them to be read for pleasure or useful for report writers, as there is not enough information on any one topic or animal. However, the color photography is excellent and corresponds well with the text.—
Cynde Suite, Bartow County Library System, Adairsville, GAEach volume divides its continent into regions and highlights several endangered animals in each. Sidebars with species facts, charts, and maps accompany photos of exotic fauna. Each final section offers a simplistic suggestion for how kids can help.
