PreS-Gr 1—This counting book is as much a piece of accessible art as it is a picture book for children. The animals are depicted with such detail and vivid colors that kids will surely pore over the pages for minutes at a time. Everything is crafted intricately, from the gold filigree on the cover and the way each number, from one to 100, is drawn with blooms of individual flowers to the boldly colored eight salamanders and the pale 60 starfish, to the 100 assorted of fish. The book would be best used in a classroom for lessons on place value, such as a visual depiction of the difference between 1 and 10 and 100 or for simple enjoyment of the fine art.—Shalini Miskelly, St. Benedict Catholic School, Seattle, WA
