K-Gr 5—Fred Ellis, an elementary school music teacher/music therapist in New York City, offers many positive vibes and idealistic concepts on his second recording of a dozen original songs. Opening with the pop tune "Always Love Your Life!" (advice from the older generation), Ellis explores a range of emotions in "Who Am I?" and the power of positive thinking in "What's the Good of Knowing It!" (both pop tunes), the beauty of butterflies in the Caribbean-flavored "Butterflies," the promise of spring in "Sweet April Song," and a plea to save us from ourselves in "Help Us, Mother Nature" (both ballads). Most of the brief songs can be learned easily by children. Ellis has a pleasing voice, with a style and gutsiness that could be found on a Broadway stage. Fun, but not a first purchase.—
