Gr 4–6—A tone of healthy skepticism runs through these titles. The impressive level of detail in each entry makes it ideal for report writers or mystery enthusiasts alike. For example, in Monsters, the section on the Loch Ness Monster includes a history of the beast, an eyewitness account of a sighting, and information on the plesiosaur, an extinct reptile that bears resemblance to the legendary creature. "Fact Hunter" or "Examining the Evidence" sidebars dissect questionable evidence for phenomena such as ghosts or UFOs and offer alternate explanations. The numerous photographs, sketches, and historical and modern reproductions depict the thrilling subjects and the people and places connected to them. Though the titles begin and end abruptly, this series is a worthy addition.
