Popular Brazilian psychologist Tibo (Quien ama educa) reformats his basic message for parents of teenagers. The rules remain the same, but he notes the difficulties encountered when parenting teens. Teenagers are learning to exist as independent beings, and parents must understand the steps of social development. They must also understand the importance of education, especially the need to know English, as well as other languages in the modern world. The existence of the Internet, which gives people instant access to all kinds of information, means that parents no longer have time to "read the manual." They must recognize that their children will meet all kinds of people and learn both good and bad things online—which means that they must be diligent about setting limits, maintaining a stable family structure, and teaching their children to be ethical, competent, and happy human beings. To do this, he says, they must lead by example, accept that no one is perfect, and know that happiness comes from self-acceptance. Recommended for libraries where Spanish-language parenting titles are popular.—Barbara M. Bibel, Oakland P.L., CA
