K-Gr 3—A real fairy tale about a romance between a young prince named William and his future wife, Kate. The story is well known, but Larkum delightfully captures the future king in whimsical depictions of his life as a boy in the castle (complete with corgis), through his life at university, and his courting and eventual marriage. At the same time, readers meet the lovely young Kate, eager to pursue her dreams, at her home in the countryside with a menagerie of charming animals. Larkum's ink and wash illustrations are a perfect match to this enchanting story. Images include a royals-devoted crowd watching Kate's arrival at Westminster Abbey, a special party at William's grandmother's house, and "Polaroids" of the happy couple's international honeymoon. Sure to warm the hearts of fairy-tale lovers everywhere, this story wouldn't be complete without rounding out the happiness for the future of the realm—a new little prince.—Carol Connor, Cincinnati Public Schools, OH
This tale of how England's Prince William and Kate Middleton met, fell in love, got married, and started a family is unlikely to interest many young children. The information is minimal, and even read as a fairy tale, the story is bland and unremarkable. The stylish pen-and-ink illustrations are appealing; it's too bad the text they're illustrating is so undistinguished.
