This book is a must-read for “Timmy Failure” fans. “Diary of a Wimpy Kid” and “Big Nate” enthusiasts will fall in love with the sarcastic, overconfident, and occasionally unreliable super-sleuth.
Libraries who purchased the first book will most certainly want this sequel. However, the book also stands alone given its review of the plot and characters in the first installment. For those who can’t get enough tales of kingdoms and magic, this will surely satisfy.
The book’s eco-conscious message is strong, but the delivery is heavy-handed and often confusing; it is obvious that Kirra has gone through major trauma, but her feelings and recovery get lost in a meandering plot involving complicated large-scale puppetry and predictable pitfalls. Not recommended.
Readers who enjoy getting lost in alternate worlds will appreciate this lengthy novel. Recommended for libraries seeking to bolster their science fiction collection.
