A fine introductory series for new readers.
Each dull primer features loosely connected sentences, one per spread, that incorporate examples of the featured vowel sound (e.g., "I like to smile" in Long I). Vowel-sound words are not highlighted in the text; a vaguely labeled "Word List" is appended. Bright full-page photos and sight words make the books accessible to new readers. The Baroque Period
Additional for public and school libraries; perhaps refreshers for teachers before they introduce the periods and styles in art appreciation or history units.
This well-written, scholarly series takes a historical approach to the study of artistic movements, devoting much time to social sentiments and major events that shaped artists of various eras. The volumes would benefit from more reproductions, and what there is would be better served in a larger, more open format. There are three other fall 2015 books in this series. Timeline. Doctor Dolittle
This spare version might encourage some readers to seek out the novel and its sequels. Young picture book aficionados will enjoy it, too. Recommended for large public library collections.
