Follett Expands Book Fair Offerings for 2018-19

After a successful pilot program, Follett is going to offer more book fairs to different areas this school year.

A year ago, Follett entered the world of school book fairs and, after a successful pilot program, the company is now going to expand for the coming school year.

In 2018-2019, Follett Book Fairs will offer fairs focused on early childhood and middle school. Follett also announced that it will accelerate expansion into major metropolitan markets around the country. In 2017-18, Follett offered book fairs designed for K-6 and K-8 schools in specific regions only.

Scholastic Book Fairs dominated the landscape for decades, but Follett came in last year and upended the status quo, giving librarians a choice and Scholastic a little competition.

Book fairs are often an important source of funding and eagerly anticipated school event, but they are a contentious issue. Some educators say the annual fair has become more about selling toys and accessories than books, and teachers are reluctant, if not resentful, about giving up class time for students to buy light-up pens and posters.

Follett Expands Its Book Fairs to Include PreK-1, Middle School

Company Builds on Success Attained in First Year, Continues to Increase Offerings

MCHENRY, Ill., Aug. 8, 2018 – Follett today announced its bustling one-year-old book fair business is expanding for the 2018-19 school year to offer fairs focused for early childhood (PreK-1) and middle school (grades 6-8). Follett Book Fairs launched a year ago on a regional basis with fairs designed especially for K-6 and K-8 schools.

Hopkins added the early success will allow Follett to accelerate its timetable to expand into major metropolitan markets in the country. Last April, Follett announced its book fairs were expanding into Texas, with a specific focus on Dallas and Houston.

Betsy Sierra, library media specialist at Eagle’s Landing Middle School in McDonough, Ga., is thrilled to hear Follett Book Fairs are offering specific events for middle school.
