A well-meaning but misguided look at problem-solving. Stick with any of the many stories in which relatable characters face specific challenges, like Kevin Henkes's Wemberly Worried, Mo Willems's Can I Play Too??, or even Virginia Lee Burton's classic Mike Mulligan and His Steam Shovel.
This excellent introduction to the Golden Rule can be used successfully with Jewish and non-Jewish audiences. Combine with Ilene Cooper's The Golden Rule for a more multicultural approach and Laurie Keller's Do unto Otters for a more playful version.
While imperfect, these three books do offer positive and age-appropriate portrayals of Shabbat and Passover and will be welcomed by caregivers and educators in Jewish settings.
The abridged board book version of the story, published in 1999, with a trimmed text and bright cartoon illustrations by Shauna Mooney Kawasaki, is more successful.
