What Is Family?: On Sesame Street

Wonderland. (Sesame Street Scribbles). Apr. 2020. 32p. Tr $12.99. ISBN 9781728210087.
PreS-Gr 1–The gang from Sesame Street is happy to help answer the basic but sometimes confusing question of what exactly constitutes a family. In simple and rhyming text, we follow the well-loved characters as they demonstrate various versions of a family. Sometimes they are large and full of lots of siblings—like the Count and his family—while others might consist of a single parent and child, as we see Grover being consoled by his mom. The text explains that families also include grandparents, who are full of wisdom, as well as friends who like the same things you do. The story moves on to show the different ways in which families have fun together by singing or painting or baking cookies—just like the Cookie Monster family. In the end, the book reiterates that it is love and hope that make up a home and we see Big Bird, Cookie Monster, Elmo, Bert and Ernie, and Abby Cadabby sitting on the Sesame Street stoop looking very happy.
VERDICT Purchase where Sesame Street characters are popular or where there is a need to augment collections about family.
