Gr 4–7—In this final series installment (after In Harm's Way), time is running out for Ben and his friends Jill and Robert. They are trying to prevent their historic oceanfront school from being bulldozed and replaced by an amusement park. But there are only a few days left in the school year, and demolition is scheduled to start on the first day of summer vacation. The Keepers must quickly uncover and decode the final safeguards Captain Duncan Oakes hid in the school more than two centuries earlier to prevent its destruction. Narrator Keith Nobbs does an excellent of job bringing this story to life. His pacing is great, and subtle changes in his voice differentiate each character from the others. Overall, this recording brings this suspenseful series to a satisfying close and should appeal to middle-grade readers who have been keeping up with this secret group of student preservationists.—Anne Bosievich, Friendship Elementary, Glen Rock, PA
