Toddler-PreS–Young children sometimes lack the words to describe their emotions. In this engaging book, familiar foods such as bananas, berries, bagels, and bread are used to create an expressive range of feelings. Faces made from these foods are arranged to present sadness, confusion, grumpiness, sleepiness, and many other emotions. A note from the authors names the foods used, discusses emotions, and encourages healthy eating. While very similar in its use of comestibles to present emotions to Freymann’s Foods with Moods and How Are You Peeling?, this slightly different approach is fresh enough to encourage children to communicate in whatever way they can manage.
VERDICT A playful addition recommended for libraries that serve young children.
