The Reopening Archives, Libraries, and Museums (REALM) Project released its second round of testing results. Researchers looked at how long virus stayed on five common library items, including board books.
Samples from each item were inoculated with the novel coronavirus and placed inside the closed book or magazine. Unlike the first round of testing, which looked at hardcover and softcover books, mylar book jackets, and DVD cases, these items were placed as they would be in a library. Books were stacked or shelved and magazines and folders were left in piles.
Results show that after two days, the virus was not detectable on the archival folders. After four days, it was undectable on the board books, braille pages, and glossy book pages. The magazine pages showed "a trace amount" of the virus on the fourth day. There was no testing beyond that.
The full test report is available to download.

Has this new test changed the ALA recommendation to quarantine returned books for 14 days?
Please advise!
