Veg Patch Party

PreS-Gr 2–When endpapers urge readers to keep it green, and there are some fairly unfamiliar botantical names on the roster—potatus mashabllus, onionus emotionallus, and carrotus see in the darkus—this is no ordinary garden with the usual vegetables in residence. While the farmer slumbers, the vegetables begin to wake up and serenade all with their latest hits, beginning with Potato and his back-up band The Chips. A rhythmic beat revs up the action, shown in brightly colored, cartoon-style digital images against a variety of bold backgrounds, as carrots chant a catchy refrain in a conga line to introduce the Red Hot Chillis and begin their “carrot can can.” Not to leave out the green vegetables, DJ Brussel (Sprouts) “spins the decks” with bouncing peas and vegetables skidding through the mud, all partying through the wildest weather. Part of the “Kitchen Disco” trilogy, this book is a creative and humorous free-for-all introducing a variety of healthy vegetables.
