The Advocate's Toolbox

Guiding Readers by Interest, Not Level

Presented by: Fountas & Pinnell Literacy™ & School Library Journal
Event Date & Time: Wednesday, January 31st 2018, 4:00 PM – 5:00 PM ET / 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM PT

Reading is a highly complex activity. Readers must build strategies and create behaviors as they move to increasingly difficult texts. How can schools support this process and teach self-sufficiency as readers progress?

Join literacy leaders Irene Fountas and Gay Su Pinnell, creators of the F&P Text Level Gradient™, for an important conversation about leveling, libraries, reading comprehension, and what they say to districts mandating leveled collections.

  • Irene Fountas – Professor in the School of Education at Lesley University
  • Gay Su Pinnell – Professor in the School of Teaching and Learning at Ohio State University

  • Kiera Parrott – Reviews Director, Library Journal & School Library Journal

I’m disappointed this link is not working. Oh well, at least I’m not the only one…just frustrated I had to switch volleyball carpools today in hopes to view it…What an interesting topic…looking forward to it another time.

    • Rebecca Jozwiak says:

I’m sorry you had trouble with the link. You should receive an email this afternoon with a link for the on demand version.

I just watched the webinar but event lobby disappeared before I could download the certificate and the slides… is there any way I can still get access to those?

Yes, you can visit the on demand recording and download the materials from there. You can use your registration link for access.

  8. Carolyn Alexander says:

I just listened/watched this webcast. Is there something I can download or print to prove I registered and attended this? I need to keep track of my hours of professional development for my school corporation.
    Thank you.

    • Rebecca Jozwiak says:

Yes, there is a green resources folder in the menu dock at the bottom of the screen. You can find a copy of the slides and a CE certificate. Please use the registration link to visit the on demand recording and access the folder.

  9. Will this be visible after the broadcast?

  10. Trish Belenson says:

How can us working in school libraries enlighten our school district with the actual intent of F&P leveling? It seems like the F&P Text Level Gradient is being misused.
