AASL Approves New Mission Statement of Empowerment

At the 2014 ALA Annual Conference in Las Vegas, the AASL Board of Directors unanimously voted to approve a new mission statement for the association that more accurately reflects its goals and practices.

At the ALA conference on June 30, over 200 youth librarians spent an hour and a half listening to three dynamic presentations during ALSC President’s Program, “The Ripple Effect: Library Partnerships that Positively Impact Children, Families, Communities and Beyond.”

Meg Medina, John Parra, and Others Honored at the Int’l Latino Book Awards | ALA 2014

For the first time, the winners of the 2014 International Latino Book Awards were revealed concurrently with the ALA Annual Conference. Among this year’s 231 honorees, recognized during a ceremony at the Clark County-Las Vegas Library Theater on June 28, were well known children’s and young adult authors and illustrators, such as Alma Flor Ada, Meg Medina, and John Parra.
