Updated: Utah Legislature to Vote on $1,050,00K Increase for School Libraries

Following school library lobbyist Sharyl Smith’s year-plus effort in Utah, with the help of Parents Advocating Libraries in Schools, the Utah legislature has allocated an additional $500,000 to school libraries, pending a final vote on the state’s overall budget this week.

Advocates Progress on Restoring Funds to Utah School Libraries

Utah’s school libraries are one step closer to getting a $500,000 infusion for new books, materials and electronic resources for the 2014-2015 school year. Even so, advocates are still pushing for funds—and increased awareness of school libraries.
