Vampire Baby!: A Hazy Dell Flap Book

Toddler-PreS–A not-so-scary vampire tale takes readers on a tour of a castle on Halloween night. With Vampire Baby’s help, readers find Frankenstein’s Monster knitting, while behind his chair a mummy and a bat read a book. When Vampire Baby disappears, the mummy and bat find him hanging out with the skeleton crew. Then, Vampire Baby hides again in order to read a book in peace and quiet. Unfortunately, the quiet doesn’t last long; the mummy, bat, and Vampire Baby go looking for the noisy castle inhabitants and find a ghost and wailing banshee in the kitchen. In the final scene, Vampire Baby hides one last time: in his own coffin. This board book uses a question-and-answer format with chunky flaps to reveal the hiding characters. Every spread has a flap that opens down or to the side. Persico (Greta and the Giants) brings her characteristic whimsical, detailed illustrations to this Halloween-themed read: a muted palette accented by vibrant reds and oranges brings Barks’s story to life.
