Gr 8 Up–On the night that Aurora, daughter of a count, attends a party hosted by the Laetus family, all she wants is to enjoy the lovely embroidery on display among the guests. That is all upended when a ring literally hits her on the head—and is followed by its owner, Felix il le Clavis, who suddenly proposes. What starts as an arrangement of convenience easily slips into one of camaraderie based upon comfort and respect. The creators fill out the story with plot points revolving around Sir Clavis’s work as a magical knight, Aurora’s magical embroidery, and the characters they meet. While there is little romance, that is only because this manga’s first volume—adapted from a light novel—focuses on rapidly introducing the main cast, especially the pleasant and supportive leading lady. The story hints at future developments involving Aurora’s talent and her relationship with Sir Clavis. Touches evoking embroidery details and 18th-century Europe appear in the charming art.
VERDICT A manga that promises a sweet romance, beautiful boys, an appealing main character, and enough unique touches to find its own niche in the fantasy romance pack.
