Premised on the notion that incorporating technology into read-alouds will make reading more exciting, this error-ridden title lacks excitement itself to keep readers engaged. The work is fraught with typos and other mistakes. Paganelli never quite adequately explains what technology will power up a read-aloud, instead opting to mix the words transmedia, ebooks, and digital throughout the text. Somewhat salvaging the first half is the heavily researched, in-depth “Part Two, Examples of Digital Read-Aloud Experiences,” but it is also has mistakes and misinformation. Readers interested in learning about the intersection of technology and reading would be better off locating resources elsewhere, e.g., accessing and reading quality app reviews through Children’s Technology Review would be a better use of librarians’ time.
