The collection begins with an introduction to the characters, including Gramma Tala and Moana’s mother, Sina, and then moves on to the stories, such as how Moana rescued Pua and how silly HeiHei the rooster almost lost the gift Moana made for her dad. The last entry, “Quest for the Heart,” is the longest of the five—about 30 pages, where the others are about 20—and is an overview of the whole Moana mythos. The graphics are the film quality that readers expect from Disney and the franchise. Moana fans will enjoy interacting with the storybook version of the beloved film.
VERDICT Readers who are on the verge of reading by themselves will benefit from the confidence boost that comes from familiarity.
