Gr 1-5–The veteran writer of over 20 cookbooks presents more than 40 recipes for kids in this volume. Each one has a list of simple ingredients and easy step-by-step instructions. Illustrations of charming animals in chef’s hats are peppered throughout, while photos of the completed dishes accompany each entry. Cooking tips and techniques, as well as nutritional information are also included. The book is divided into sections featuring breakfast, lunch, and snacks and treats. Clarkson’s images are colorful and crowd-pleasing, and the whimsical creations make this entry kid-friendly. There’s a nice balance of healthy food and fun, sweet snacks. There is also a good sprinkling of meals inspired by Latin American and Asian cuisine, including empanadas, sticky salmon rice, and fruity chicken korma. These recipes do require adult supervision and assistance.
VERDICT An appealing choice for readers who are excited to put on aprons and start cooking!
