Gr 1-2–This picture book begins and ends with the Old Testament’s Psalms praising God’s ownership of and love for his world. The colorful watercolor and collage illustrations show a group of diverse places and the many wonders of fauna and flora in each. A variety of countries and settings are depicted: sunrise in India, wheat fields of the United States, cherry blossoms of Japan, and moonrise in Kenya. Some of the countries are represented by their children and others by their natural resources.
VERDICT Rephrasing the Book of Psalms, the text suggests both the plentitude to be grateful for as well as the responsibility of stewardship. All is positive and hopeful. For collections where religious texts are welcomed.
