Brown outlines technologies and innovative practices school librarians can spread throughout their schools. Oriented toward school librarians collaborating with classroom and subject-area teachers, each chapter describes how librarians can successfully use a different technology or teaching technique, from 3-D printing and coding to gamification and engineering. While readers will come to this book with varying background knowledge, the author explores a wide enough range of concepts that most librarians will find something relevant and new here. For each concept, Brown provides many examples from her own school, as well as rubrics and other resources that librarians serving both elementary and secondary students can use as inspiration. Brown explains how librarians can position themselves as leaders of innovation in their school community, and helpfully outlines how to use this role to advocate to teachers and administrators. However, because the text so heavily focuses on the collaborative role of librarians and how they can support classroom curricula, it will be less useful for those on a fixed teaching schedule.
VERDICT With a wide variety of examples, this book serves as a guidebook for K–12 librarians to promote innovative teaching throughout their school communities.
