The Harvest

(The Heartland Trilogy: Bk. 3). 9 CDs. 11:08 hrs. Brilliance. 2015. $14.99. ISBN 9781491590492.
Gr 7 Up—Cael has been in a Blightborn sleep for a year. During that time the Heartland has undergone many changes. There are no more Obligations, towns are dead or dying, and the survivors are being involuntarily transformed into mechanical beings. The Empyrean has one priority—to destroy the Heartland. Cael and his friends set out to overcome the mechanicals, war machines, and a group of girls who have embraced their wild nature. The book would be much more enjoyable with less revisiting of events from the first two novels. Once the plot is in full swing, the story progresses quickly, and the ending is very satisfying. Nick Podehl's narration is enjoyable and varied, and it brings life into an otherwise dreary experience.
VERDICT This audiobook would make a good supplemental addition to collections that already contain the first two installments.
