Luke & the Little Seed

illus. by Giuliano Ferri. 32p. Minedition. 2015. Tr $17.99. ISBN 9789888240944.
PreS-Gr 1—Luke, a young mouse, receives the gift of seeds for his birthday from his grandfather. Never having seen seeds before, his grandfather shows him how to plant them and teaches him how to both care for the plant and practice patience while waiting for it to turn into something amazing. Luke does a great job becoming a gardener, with just one bump in the road, and is able to appreciate his harvest and their teamwork. This oversize picture book with lovely soft watercolor illustrations makes it great for sharing during storytimes and one-on-one. Adorable endpapers give a recap of a story.
VERDICT An appealing intergenerational tale that teaches important life skills like persistence, responsibility, and patience.
