The Pat Scales Special Collections Room was dedicated and opened at the Carmichael Library at the University of Montevallo in Montevallo, AL, earlier this month. Scales, a graduate of the University of Montevallo, intellectual freedom advocate, and SLJ's "Scales on Censorship" columnist, donated more than 3,000 books to the Carmichael Library, including signed first editions, correspondence with authors, intellectual freedom materials, and marginalia. The collection is open by appointment, Monday through Friday.
