Pictures of the Week: Authors Celebrate at Abrams Books

Authors Ying Chang and Vincent Compestine, Lauren Myracle, Lisa Greenwald, Chris Raschka, and Alison Kave convened at Abrams Books Thursday, March 20, for an evening of Chinese food and pies and to discuss some of their latest work. To mark the publisher’s relaunch of the “Thingy Thing” series, Caldecott winner Raschka read aloud from Lamby Lamb and presented the trailer for his upcoming Crabby Crab (both Abrams, 2014).

In honor of the 10th anniversary of Myracle’s ttyl (Abrams, 2004), the author read aloud from her editor’s response to her updating of the book. Mother and son team Chang and Compestine weighed in on the challenges of collaborating on their book Secrets of the Terra-Cotta Soldier (Abrams, 2014)—and on the difficulties presented by working during Vincent’s junior and senior years of high school. Greenwald introduced her latest novel, Welcome to Dog Beach (Abrams, 2014), a summer read that she’s excited about, especially in light of the recent cold weather.

Finally, Kave, who’s also founder of First Prize Pies in New York, spoke about her newest cookbook, First Prize Pies: Shoo-Fly, Candy Apple, and Other Deliciously Inventive Pies for Every Week of the Year (and More) (Stewart, Tabori & Chang, 2014).
