‘Code Name Verity,’ ‘The Quick Fix’ Win Edgars

The Mystery Writers of America has announced the winners of its its 2013 Edgar Allan Poe Awards, honoring the best in mystery fiction, non-fiction, and television, in celebration of the 204^th anniversary of Poe’s birth. Code Name Verity, selected by SLJ as a 2012 Best Book, was named the best young adult fiction book, while The Quick Fix has won best juvenile fiction title.

BEST YOUNG ADULT FICTION
Code Name Verity, by Elizabeth Wein (Disney/Hyperion) also received the Printz Honor and was declared the “Undead Winner” of SLJ‘s Battle of the Kids’ Books tournament. The nominees included Emily’s Dress and Other Missing Thing (Roaring Brook) by Kathryn Burak, The Edge of Nowhere (Viking) by Elizabeth George, Crusher (Delacorte) by Niall Leonard, and Amelia Anne is Dead and Gone (Dutton) by Kat Rosenfield.

BEST JUVENILE FICTION
In the juvenile category, The Quick Fix (Amulet) by Jack D. Ferraiolo beat out nominees Fake Mustache (Amulet) by Tom Angleberger, 13 Hangmen (Amulet) by Art Corriveau, Spy School (S & S) by Stuart Gibbs, and Three Times Lucky (Dial) by Sheila Turnage.

The Edgar® Awards were presented to the winners at the group’s 67th Gala Banquet May 2, 2013, at the Grand Hyatt Hotel, New York City.
