Elsevier ups A&H titles in Scopus, EBSCO exclusive distributor of Footnote.com, Wilson adds 21,000 images to Cinema Image Gallery, more.

Michael Rogers -- Library Journal, 06/23/2009

  • Elsevier ups A&H titles in Scopus
  • EBSCO made exclusive worldwide distributor of Footnote.com
  • ForeWord Magazine names the University of Nebraska Press its 2008 Independent Publisher of the Year
  • Wilson adds 21,000 images Cinema Image Gallery plus new search options

Elsevier has nearly doubled the Arts & Humanities (A&H) titles in its Scopus® product to 3500 by adding top global journals using the European Science Foundation’s European Reference Index for Humanities (ERIH). This marks the first time that many of the ERIH titles will be available through a global citation database at no additional cost. Like the existing releases in Scopus, the new journals contain cited references that make previously unavailable bibliometrics data accessible. In addition, Scopus allows tracking of citations belonging to scholarly books.

EBSCO Publishing has signed a deal to become the exclusive worldwide distributor of Footnote.com, a historical digital archive and genealogy database for libraries and institutions. The Footnote.com collections feature over 55 million images available from a content partnership with the National Archives and other regional archives—most never before available on the Internet. These digital images of records, preserved in the National Archives, represent a growing collection of historic documents. Footnote includes material relating to the Revolutionary War, Civil War, World War I, World War II, U.S. presidents, historical newspapers, and naturalization papers. Libraries subscribing to Footnote.com additionally will be able to provide remote access to patrons performing genealogy research or explore images of the original source documents available online.

ForeWord Magazine, a journal dedicated to reviewing independently published books, named the University of Nebraska Press (UNP) its 2008 Independent Publisher of the Year, citing its outstanding works of translation, regional fiction, poetry, and memoir. UNP also earned praise for publishing highly accomplished travel, sports, story, and scholarly books.

H.W. Wilson has pumped up its Cinema Image Gallery with the addition of 21,000 new images and new search options. According to the vendor, “The new content reflects both recent and classic films and brings the total number of images in the database to more than 176,000.” Films new to the database also link to biographical additions and new review material. Improved search parameters include an expanded list of film awards—now featuring Best Costume Design and Best Screenplay—as well as country of production. A growing number of records now link to full video available free online. Cinema Image Gallery was dubbed a “perfect 10” by Library Journal.
