Everyday Explorers

There’s a new user-generated video site, but it’s perhaps not what you’d expect. Among the posted clips: a pair of mourning doves, in time-lapse, busily tend a nest atop an air-conditioning unit. A school of Pennant Butterfly fish descend through a group of divers off the Maui coast. A silent sequence of still images documents San Francisco’s Mission District. Created by National Geographic, Everyday Explorers gives budding filmmakers a new place to upload video, view others’ work, and rate their favorite clips in four categories: Wildlife and Pets, Favorite Places, Weather, and Green Tips. National Geographic is looking for “sophistication, stunning visuals, and creativity” here —no surprise—with the best submissions eligible to be tapped as “featured videos.” There’s a video of the day, top-rated and most popular entries, and links to related content from NationalGeographic.com.
“’Everyday Explorers gives our passionate fan base a platform to showcase their talents to potentially millions of online viewers,” says Scott Lunt, senior producer for National Geographic Digital Media. “’Our goal is to display the powerful impact that science and nature have on audiences in a fun, creative way.”
