Dodie Ownes -- School Library Journal, 02/03/2010

With the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver coming up, the timing is perfect for the Science of the Olympic Winter Games, a video series from NBCLearn, the education arm of NBC News. Narrated by NBC News anchor Lester Holt, the 16-part series includes episodes on hockey, snowboarding, alpine skiing, and much more. The athletes’ movements are captured by a state-of-the-art, high-speed camera called the Phantom Cam, which has the astonishing ability to shoot up to 1,500 frames per second. Even the athletes themselves are amazed by what the camera sees!

You’ll want to bookmark NBCLearn. There are links to tons of great K–12 and higher-ed learning resources on the site, including NBC News Archives on Demand, which can be used in the classroom. You’ll find newsreels, primary source documents, video content aligned to state standards and more—all for free.
