DESCRIPTION: Established in 1854, Eugene School District 4J is a student-centered K-12 district that believes that everything we do must be in the best interest of children. Located in beautiful Eugene, Oregon, we are currently recruiting for a High School Library Media Specialist at Churchill High School to start in the 2010-11 school year.

The purpose of the School Library Media Specialist is to enhance student achievement and appreciation of literature by ensuring that students and teachers are effective users of ideas and information. This goal is accomplished by:

• Providing intellectual and physical access to materials in all formats;
• Providing instruction to foster literacy competence and stimulate interest in accessing, evaluating and applying information and ideas;
• Promoting literacy throughout the day;
• Working with other educators to design learning so that students' literacy needs are met;
• Assist teachers integrate technology in the classroom;
• Team-teach 9^th and 10^th grade Small Learning Communities classes;
• Demonstrated experience in culturally and linguistically competent practices in a library or classroom setting.

Successful candidates will be able to obtain a valid Oregon TSPC license with Secondary Educational Media endorsement by time of hire. Must have experience in staff development related to the library, media use, and technology use. ESOL endorsement or bilingual Spanish ability preferred.
