High School Ace
Christopher Bell -- School Library Journal, 02/17/2010
This month, my educator colleagues and I will begin looking at and evaluating online resources for elementary, middle, and high school students. When teaching students to access resources, we always discuss the value of validity, bias, and strategic searches. Enter High School Ace, an online guide to free educational resources for teens. As a school librarian, I designed my Web site to house as many educational and news resources as possible. High School Ace has a much broader range of resources than I could ever put together and maintain, all in one place. Some of these resources even offer daily updates on school-specific news.
High School Ace was created by a former educator and instructional technologist. To get the maximum benefits of the Web site, it’s necessary to subscribe; however, there’s a plethora of free resources available ad hoc, including time lines, quizzes, review games, and fun educational games. There’s even a tool to help students get homework help using an online encyclopedia and dictionary.
Finally, and most importantly for high schoolers, the site also lets kids practice taking state tests. This can also benefit teachers by giving them insight into the state test procedures and formats.
It would take a long time to fully explore all that High School Ace has to offer students and teachers. Check it out!
