Lynn Blumenstein -- School Library Journal, 10/07/2004

A growing number of people are starting to doubt the credibility of information found on the Web. That’s the conclusion of a 140-page report by the University of Southern California’s Annenberg Center for the Digital Future (CDF).

The study says that although Internet use is at an all-time high, credibility is increasingly becoming an issue. Specifically, roughly 75 percent of users say most or all information on established media Web sites or government Web sites is reliable and accurate, but only 9.5 percent of users say the information on Web sites posted by individuals is reliable and accurate.
