ArchivesLaunching Your Own "All Together Now" & Thanks
Posted by Michael Stephens on September 4, 2008
My hope for all of the participants in SLJ's "All Together Now" is that many of you may choose to do a version of this program or the larger "23 Things" in your own libraries or schools. One thing you can do is enhance and augment each activity to fit your own needs. To make it super easy, I have archived all of the activities and postings at a special Wordpress blog at Tame the Web: http://tametheweb.com/sljlearning20/ To make it even easier, you can download the entire blog (with all posts, categories, etc) at this link: http://tametheweb.com/sljlearning20/?p=204 Note: Images are not included, but feel free to grab them from the site. ...Read More ...There's just one more Thing!

Posted by Michael Stephens on September 1, 2008
First, watch this video: The availability and use of online productivity web-based applications has exploded over the past few years and for good reasons! These powerful applications provide users with the ability to create and share documents over the internet without the need of installed desktop applications. Some experts speculate that this emerging tren...Read More Thing #11: Tagging

Tagging is an open and informal method of categorizing that allows users to associate keywords with online content (webpages, pictures & posts). Unlike library subject cataloging, which follows a strict set of guidelines (i.e.Library of Congress subject headings), tagging is completely uns Change Happens...

Two Point Ohmmmmm writes: Change happens. Constantly. New technologies, both online and off, are bound to have an impact on the world. Libraries and the Web are both just a part of the change. The terms “library 2.0″ and “web 2.0″ are just tags used to try to describe the current status and the potential for future change (using the concept of versions brought about by technological upgrades and enhancements). People use the terms to try to quickly and clearly define a set of changes or tools…but change and time rarely have clear beginnings or ends. The changes don’t come to us in handy “service packs” such as we get f...Read More Thing #10: Twitter

One theme I see in our work here is that many school librarians just don't have access to the tools we're exploring the way they would like. Jan writes at:http://janrobertson.wordpress.com/2008/08/19/library-20/ We’ve been asked to create a post about what Library 2.0 means to us personally. For me, it just means taking the Web 2.0 tools, and figuring out how those tools can best help me get my library job done. For example, if my main responsibilities are teaching the students research skills - how does Web 2.0 help me do that. If I’m interested in improving my Reader’s Advisory service, how does Web 2.0 help me do that. How do Web 2.0 tools help me communicate and help teachers? One of my huge frustrations is that many of the...Read More Thing #9 Video Sites

Within the few years online video hosting sites have exploded allowing users to easily to upload and share videos on the web. Among all the web 2.0 players in this area, YouTube is currently top dog serving up over 1 million video views a day and allowing users not only to upload their own video content easily, but also embed clips into their own sites easily.

Industries: Technology Facing Facebook - How do you use it?

Shayne ponders Facebook and asks a question:http://msrussell.wordpress.com/2008/08/19/being-social-time-to-face-facebook/ Okay, so I’ll confess I’ve never even looked at Facebook until today. I now have my own account. I’m still not exactly sure what to do with it. I have to invite some people to be my friends, otherwise when people click on the “view friends” link it will say “Shayne Russell has no friends,” and that’s just too sad! Facebook suggested some friends for me (”these are people you may know”) based on my high school and college information and indeed, I spotted some people I haven’t even thought about in years. Would they even remember me? ...Read More Thing #8 Social Networking

Readingandrunning writes:I have spent many hours over the last couple weeks exploring the latest ‘things’. At this point I feel that I may be getting overwhelmed with all the different applications that are available to me. My goal when I joined the learning experience was to become familiar enough to present some ideas to my teachers so they could begin including one of two things into their lessons with their students. But my question now is what one do I start with? With the time constraints that we all work under I have a short opportunity to make my case and I want it to be a good one. What a great question! I think it will be different for many of you - what would you start with? I would probably start with...Read More
