In a panel moderated by SLJ reviews editor Shelley Diaz, YA authors Daniel Jose Older (Shadowshaper; Scholastic, 2015), Sofia Quintero (Show and Prove; Delacorte, 2015), and Danette Vigilante (Saving Baby Doe; Putnam, 2014) shared their inspirations for recent works, the challenges they faced as Latino writers, and their love of New York City. The event, which took place on Wednesday, November 18 at La Casa Azul Bookstore in Spanish Harlem, concluded with a reading by a teen who had composed a poem in response to Vigilante’s The Trouble with Half a Moon (Putnam, 2011).
