Director of Meridian (ID) Library District Gretchen Caserotti opens up SLJ’s second annual think tank event with a keynote speech in Nashville, TN.

To help jump start SLJ‘s second annual Public Library Leadership Think Tank—a day dedicated to exploring the role of leadership at all levels within public librarianship and youth service, which took place at the Nashville (TN) Public Library on April 25—library director of Boise, Idaho’s Meridian Library District Gretchen Caserotti spoke about her professional journey from children’s librarian to library director.

Sprinkled with humor and advice, Caserotti described her beginnings (audio provided below)—”being thrown into the deep end”—at the New York Public Library to her rise as head of children and teen services, and later, assistant director for public services at Darien Library in Connecticut to her latest role as the director of the Meridian Library District. Offering the wise words of Mabela the mouse, from Margaret Read MacDonald’s classic retelling of Mabela the Clever (Albert, Whitman & Company, 2001), Caserotti urged the Think Tank attendees to “keep your eyes and ears open, pay attention, and… move fast!”
