U.S. Department of Education Seeks Peer Reviewers for School Library Grant Competition


The U.S. Department of Education is looking for peer reviewers for an upcoming school library grant funding process.

The American Library Association (ALA) District Dispatch blog reported on March 12 that “The U.S. Department of Education is looking for peer reviewers for a possible school library grant competition this summer. The federal agency is seeking school librarians, educators, literacy specialists, administrators, digital media education specialists, college or university educators and researchers and education consultants to fill the bill as peer reviewers.”

The District Dispatch blog goes on to say:

“Peer reviewers will independently read, score, and provide written comments for grant submissions under the Innovative Approaches to Literacy program, an initiative designed to improve children’s literacy by providing books and high-quality childhood literacy activities for children and families living in high need communities. Peer reviews will be used to recommend applications for funding.

Each reviewer will need to dedicate approximately 50-60 hours of time this coming summer for reading, scoring, developing comments, and discussing assigned applications over a two-week period. Given that the review will be conducted totally online, each reviewer must have access to the internet, a phone, a printer, and have the ability to interact within the web environment.”
