–Heidi Swedberg and the Sukey Jump Band’s second album is a diverse mix of original songs and traditional children’s music. The ukulele is featured throughout and pairs well with the guitar, bass, drums, and other nontraditional instruments such as the slide whistle, jaw harp, clave, and doumbek. Swedberg’s pleasant, expressive voice is often joined by others in the band, including children. While most songs feature lively, toe-tapping rhythms, there are also several lullabies. Selections include the original song, “Cup of Tea,” complete with tea kettle sound effects; “The Owl and the Pussycat,” in which Swedberg humorously portrays the owl, the cat, and the pig; the silly, fast-moving “Istanbul”; “Wi Wa,” a Haitian Creole tune; and the Latin traditionals “Duermete” and “Al Tambor.” This joyful album will inspire children to get up and dance and to experience the fun in music. A fine purchase for school or public libraries.–Amanda Spino, Ocean County Library, NJ
