Waber's Bearsie Bear's Surprise Sleepover Party is another of his books which I cherish. The story became a shadow puppet show for the public library summer reading program somewhere in the late 90s or early 2000s. What a gentle, funny treasure, the cast of characters Waber created. Seemed like a winter version cast from Chicken Little, but a different kind of story. What kindness, what gentleness, what a funny funny story from the beloved Bernard Waber. He had the timing for humor like Jack Benny. Rest In Peace.

Yes, Lyle was lovable but I can't believe no mention was made of Ira! Ira Sleeps Over and Ira Says Goodbye have been the perfect launch to important conversations over the course of my 30 years as a teacher & librarian. How his fine-tuned understanding of the feelings of children will be missed!
